The nation’s largest police union has issued approval for President Donald Trump’s main provisions.
National Brothers Police (FOP) President Patrick Yos announced strong support for the bill Wednesday evening, saying, “The “one big beautiful bill” is more than a law.” It is a bold step into an economy that is protected by public safety officers across the country and respects, rewards, and promotes those who keep it safe. ”
Yos has expressed strong support for the bill’s two provisions: the tax credits on overtime salaries and the increased state and local tax (salt) credits.
President FOP praised Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson for passing the bill in Congress.

The bill passed the House last week after a vigil debate in which Republicans narrowed their victory by 215-214 votes. The bill now faces serious opposition from Senate Democrats and some Republicans.
“President Trump was the first to propose abolishing federal income taxes while working overtime, despite being a candidate. I’m very pleased that a similar provision is included in “one big beautiful bill law,” Yodes said.
Regarding the increase in the bill’s salt deduction, FOP praised some of the large and beautiful bill, which generates income tax tax credits for overtime profits for those earning less than $160,000 a year, and increases the salt deduction for all taxpayers under $500,000 a year to $40,000 a year.
Salt deduction caps benefit people living in high-cost areas, mainly New York City, Los Angeles and the surrounding area. Republicans representing these regions have framed up the salt deduction cap as an existential issue, claiming that the majority of GOPs could be sacrificed in the middle of 2026.

Meanwhile, Republicans representing low-tax conditions are largely wary of raising the deduction cap, believing they will encourage Blue State’s high-tax policies.
R-Ga. Rep. Rich McCormick told Fox News that he hopes the Senate will address the salt deduction, saying it assumes the provision will add $385 billion to US deficit spending.
Yet Yoze said “the current limit on salt deductions will be unique and unfairly punished by law enforcement officials who often need to live within a certain distance in the jurisdiction they serve, collecting valuable mechanisms that allow for reduced living costs.”

He said the salt deductions are also a valuable way to support local budgets as law enforcement faces a set of financial challenges related to inflated costs of equipment, vehicles and personnel, particularly with regard to the ongoing recruitment and maintenance crisis.
