His father came face to face with three masked men inside the Studio City house, but he was ready, armed, chased them from the house.
The three men were captured in security footage wandering outside the house and tapped the window and dog door to see if the animals were inside.
“Three men were basically heading towards their toes. The windbreaker hoodie is visible only to the eyes,” the homeowner said.
They used the device to crush the double-pane glass doors and entered the house.
“They yelled ‘LAPD’ while they were in the house impersonating the police. I think that was what sparked my senses,” the homeowner said.
The homeowner who didn’t want to be identified was sleeping upstairs, and his two young children were just under the hall.
“I peered down the stairs and saw two men coming up the stairs and ready to take them right away,” he said. “I was ready for any scenario. I was armed and ready, and thankfully the last thing I wanted to do was shoot people in my house, so they ran.”
The homeowner called the police but became a burglar. He believes that the man has been looking at his house for several days.
“We were out of town for a few days and the way they responded was that they definitely thought the house was empty,” the homeowner said. “I think they’re just getting that bravery. You need to be ready.”
This invasion was one of at least four that took place in the valley in the last 24 hours.
First at Studio City, then two hours later at Encino. Another in West Hills and then a rest at home in Canoga Park on Thursday around 3:30pm.
Police are investigating, but it is not clear whether these break-ins are related.
There were many invasions in the valley.
Nearly 200 residential and commercial invasions in North Hollywood, Topanga and West Valley areas in March.
