Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were fired on a 44-year-old armed man near USC. The 44-year-old armed man near USC announced Thursday that he was taken into custody after killing a police officer who approached him.
Southwest Patrol Division officials responded to the 2300 block of Scaff Street between Hoover and Figueroa Streets about 6:50pm on Tuesday, about self-reported information from Adrien Uribe that he was armed with a grenade and a handgun and committed suicide.
“The officer set up containment around the location and verbally contacted Uribe, who did not follow the officer’s orders and remained barricaded in his apartment,” police said in a statement.
Special weapons and tactical personnel from the Metropolitan Division were later sent to the location to help Uribe detain.
Police say before SWAT officers arrived, Uribe suddenly appeared to be a handgun from the apartment, pointing it at the officer and shooting the officer dead.
“Uribe was not hit by the shooting, retreated to his apartment and remained a barricade,” police said.
He eventually surrendered to the police after receiving chemical gas deployment in his apartment, booking it on suspicion of a criminal threat.
None of them were injured when the firearm was fired. Investigators found no explosives in the residence. Instead, they retrieved black and brown replica guns at the scene to process them as evidence.
Investigators from the Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and conducted another investigation into the shooting.
