An arrested suspect was arrested Tuesday in an attack that prompted the lockdown of a middle school near Fontana.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old David Morris of Fontana, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 1:16pm, deputies received reports of a man armed with a rifle and handgun, and a woman bleeding from her head in the 9400 block of Hemlock Avenue.
Officials from the Fontana Unified School District Police Station, who worked across the street at Sequoia Middle School, were also flagged by witnesses.
As the officer approached the man, he fled to a nearby house. Sequoia Middle School was blocked for student safety as school officials and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
The suspect was involved in a dispute with another man when he was allegedly threatened to point him to a firearm, authorities said.
Several firearms have been seized after the suspect, 27-year-old David Morris, was arrested on April 15, 2025, on charges urged the lockdown of a middle school near Fontana.
During the conflict, a nearby woman was hit in the head. She was taken to the hospital with a life-threatening injury.
Morris was eventually taken into custody. He was arrested for firearms, criminal threats and domestic violence assault and owned a firearm near the school grounds.
Deputies also seized several firearms from the scene, including those used in the incident.
“The Sheriff’s department would like to report this incident immediately and thank the community members who flagged the nearby officials,” the Sheriff’s Department said. “Their actions contributed greatly to their successful outcomes.”
