Rosen to push for Nevada in first Democratic primary in 2028
Sen. Jacky Rosen is pushing for Nevada to become the first Democratic primary in the 2028 presidential election. She also explained to Fox News her approach to attracting voters in states that President-elect Trump narrowly won in 2024.
The addition of new Democrats to key Senate committees could strengthen U.S. support for Israel as the fight against Hamas continues in Gaza.
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) will be appointed to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) in the new Congress, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) announced Thursday.
Notably, the Nevada Democrat, who was narrowly re-elected in November in a state that President-elect Donald Trump flipped, is the third Jewish woman ever to serve in the U.S. Senate. Rosen is also co-chair and co-founder of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, along with Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.).

Throughout his tenure in federal office, Rosen has supported Israel’s right to self-defense, especially during the ongoing war with Hamas.
“At a time when America’s adversaries seek to overthrow America’s global leadership and destabilize our alliances, I am a strong voice in support of our allies and in the fight for freedom, democracy, and justice around the world. ” Rosen said in a statement.
“As a member of the committee, I will continue to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strengthen America’s global partnerships and counter threats from Iran, Russia, and China. We intend to affirm our commitment to support.”Our democratic ally Israel remains steadfast and unconditional. ”

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), who is retiring as SFRC chairman, has long supported Israel, and several other committee members have been more critical of the US ally. Normally, a withdrawal from the party would upset the balance of the Democratic Party to some extent.
Current Democratic committee members include Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D), Sen. Chris Coons (Delaware), Sen. Chris Murphy (Connecticut), Sen. Tim Kaine (Virginia), and Jeff Merkley. Representatives (Oregon) Cory Booker, D.N.J., Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.

Six of the nine current Democratic members of Congress recently voted in favor of a resolution aimed at blocking arms transfers to Israel. SFRC’s incoming ranking members Shaheen, Merkley, Schatz, Van Hollen, Kaine and Murphy will vote in favor of some or all three measures to do this on the Senate floor in November. He was among the 19 Democratic Party members who did so.

Rosen’s addition could increase the likelihood of bipartisan action by the committee, especially as it relates to Israel.
The new Congress will be chaired by Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho).
