A week after the scandal at the Coldplay concert, the data startup astronomer, who sparked the resignation of the CEO and chief talent officer, is about to shift the story with the help of Gwyneth Paltrow.
In a new promotional video released on the company’s LinkedIn account on Friday, the Oscar-winning actress introduced herself as “very temporarily employed and hired on behalf of more than 300 astronomers.”
She says the company has “received a lot of questions in the past few days,” acknowledging the attention of the virus that the company has received, and the video proceeds in the form of a tongue to answer them.
“OMG! Actual f—” reads one on-screen question. Before Paltrow calms down and provides a sophisticated summary of the company’s value proposition, she adds, “Yes! Astronomer is the perfect place to run Apache Airflow. She adds that she is “excited” by the surge in interest in automating data workflows.
Another suspended question – “How about your social media team…” – followed by an invitation to the company’s “Beyond Analytics” meeting this September. Paltrow closes the video by telling viewers:
The ad comes just after a widely shared video from Coldplay’s July 15th concert at Gillette Stadium. There, Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were found hugging Jumbotron. Frontman Chris Martin joked on stage. “They’re either cheating or very shy,” she sent the clip viral, drawing millions of views online. Both executives resigned a few days later.
Andy Byron and Christine Cabot were seen at Jumbotron at a Cold Play concert in Massachusetts and were able to kick the frame out soon after. The astronomer has since nominated co-founder Pete DeJoy as interim CEO, signaling plans to advance national recruitment efforts.
The new ads also attracted attention for casting choices. Paltrow is the ex-wife of Coldplay frontman and adds a layer of irony and iconic PR value to her role as a company spokesman. Social media observers praised the video’s creative approach, describing it as a well-tuned change in tone following the controversy.
