Asylum seekers deported from Santa Ana to the Dominican Republic – NBC Los Angeles

Undocumented immigrant asylum seekers from Santa Ana, who were taken to ice custody during immigration check-in, have returned to the country they left three years ago.

Esmarin de Jesus Peralta and his American girlfriend, Ashley Wang, spoke with the NBCLA of the Dominican Republic. The king visited him for the first time since his exile.

“He was trying to do everything with books and head on the path to permanent residence,” the Wang said.

Peralta, who is staying with Santo Domingo’s family, said he was happy with the king’s visit to the Caribbean island nation, but he said the past two months have been a nightmare.

ICE confirmed that Peralta had been issued a final deportation order after missing the court date shortly after the one app that CBP had used to schedule the court. The new administration told people who would disable the Biden-era online booking app and use it to leave immediately after taking office in January.

Since January 2023, over 900,000 people have joined the US using the CBP One app. The app was launched to expand the legal routes to enter the United States to block illegal border crossings.

One CBP US user was generally allowed to stay for two years with permission to work under presidential authorities, known as parole. The King said Peralta, who worked as a groundkeeper, had a valid work permit, social security number and no criminal history.

The King showed NBCLA Peralta’s work permit and Social Security card.

Esmarin de Jesus Peralta, an undocumented asylum seeker in the Dominican Republic, is on the verge of deportation after being detained on the ice while believing it was a routine check-in with an immigration officer in Santa Ana. Mekahlo Medina reports NBC4 News on March 20, 2025 at 6pm.

Federal authorities said the notification of dismissal was sent to one beneficiary of CBP. Those who used this app were encouraged to use the same app renamed CBP Home to self-promotion.

Peralta said the Immigration Bureau told him to report to the Santa Ana office on February 13th. When he arrived he was told he had missed the January 22nd detention hearing.

Peralta attempted to appeal detention, citing the app’s cancellation, but each appeal failed. Peralta spent time in three different detention centres before being eventually deported to the Dominican Republic, a country that fled for gang violence.

“After exhausting all his due process, there was no legal basis to allow Daisy to stay in the US,” Ice told NBCLA.

The king said it could take years before Peralta, who is with his family, is allowed to return to the United States.

“We are determined to be together,” the king said.
