Actor Aubrey Plaza spoke out Monday about the recent death of her husband, writer/director Jeff Baena.
In a statement on behalf of Baena-Stern’s family, Plaza called her late husband’s death an “unimaginable tragedy.”
“We deeply appreciate everyone who has offered their support. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time,” the statement said.
Baena, director of “Life After Beth” and co-writer of “I Heart Huckabees,” died Friday of suicide, according to the Los Angeles County coroner. He was 47 years old.

Baena and Plaza, 40, married in 2021. The couple co-starred in several films, including 2014’s “Life After Beth,” in which Ms. Plaza starred.
Sundance published a tribute to Baena on X, saying, “We sincerely thank Jeff Baena for sharing his story and contributing to the lasting memories we created together.”
“Jeff, we will miss your wit, humor and bold vision. Rest in peace my friend,” Sundance posted.
