Aurora police say several members of the violent Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua (TdA) were involved in an “incredibly violent” armed home invasion and kidnapping that killed two people at an apartment complex this week. It was confirmed that the person was seriously injured.
“In my opinion, without a doubt, this is TdA activity. Some of these individuals have been identified as TdA gang members,” said Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain. Ta. “This is something we are working very closely with our partners at HSI [Homeland Security Investigations] and D.H.S. [Homeland Security] This is to build relationships with gangs. ”
Chamberlain said authorities have little way to confirm that a suspect is a member of TdA because gang members typically do not disclose their affiliation.
“It’s really difficult to try to say, ‘Hey, you’re 100 percent a gang member,'” he said.

Chamberlain said identifying them as members of a notorious Venezuelan gang was not a “big step.”
“But when you look at this situation, the events of this incident, the individuals involved in this, and the veracity and violence that was involved in this, again, this is not a big deal if they are members of the TdA gang.” “It’s a step towards me saying yes,” he said.
Gang members allegedly broke into the couple’s apartment in the Edge at Raleigh Apartments in suburban Denver, tied up the victims, beat them, stabbed them, kidnapped them and hospitalized them. The assailants also allegedly stole jewelry from the victim.

Although the department cannot yet confirm whether all 19 suspects detained in the case are TdA members, Chamberlain said several are members of the gang that has been terrorizing Aurora residents in recent months. He said it can be clearly confirmed.

Chamberlain said one of the detained TdA members was also involved in a violent apartment takeover in Aurora earlier this year.
According to Chamberlain, this was not an isolated incident. He said TdA members and their affiliates regularly abused the couple, extorting them for $500 every two weeks. He believes the couple is not the only victim of intimidation and extortion by gang members.
Chamberlain also said the Aurora Police Department is fully cooperating with ICE, DHS and the Department of Homeland Security in their investigations to determine the identities of those involved in the incident and their association with gangs.
