Despite growing concerns about safety on subways and stations, one police department plans to remove police presence from public transport early next year. Los Angeles Metro confirmed in a statement to KTLA that its contract with the Long Beach Police Department will end on December 30th, ending the partnership between the two departments. “We value our partnership with the Long Beach Police Department, one of three contract law enforcement agencies serving Metro,” the statement reads. “We will continue to work closely with the Long Beach Police Department to ensure the safety of our stations.” We will work with our other…
Los Angeles County got a gift from voters. Measure A would pass a half-cent sales tax on the dollar that would provide $1 billion annually to provide services and housing to homeless people. Providing homeless people with the help they need is a difficult, time-consuming and expensive task, but residents clearly still believe in the mission. But we can probably expect visible progress in the near future, especially considering this is the second tax measure county voters have passed for this purpose. The first was 2017’s Measure H, which now repeals the quarter-cent sales tax and replaces it with Measure…

A man posing as an Uber driver, who said he was driving on a family member’s account, was arrested on suspicion of raping a 15-year-old girl outside a school in Southgate late last month. The horrifying, traumatic ordeal unfolded on October 23 after the teen’s mother, whose first name was Estela, ordered a rideshare to drop her daughter off at school. The victim said the sexual assault continued for several minutes just outside Southgate High School after the man got into her back seat and overpowered her. “He grabbed her by the neck, pinned her against the seat and pulled…

November 13, 2024 8:56 PM PT Jeremy Renner is already super (like the Marvel hero and survivor of a horrific snowplow accident)—now he’s great, too. The actor has been announced as the grand marshal of the 92nd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, organizers announced Wednesday. The two-time Oscar nominee, known for his roles as William James in The Hurt Locker and the arrow-shooting Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will lead a parade that has lasted nearly 100 years. By selecting Rep. Matt Gaetz as his attorney general nominee, President-elect Donald Trump is installing a fierce supporter seen as divisive within his own party. Gaetz’s selection, although he was not one of his favorite candidates, was announced on Trump’s social media rather than a more formal announcement from the transition team, as was the case with many other candidates. First published on the network. House Speaker Mike Johnson said Gaetz’s resignation from Congress on Wednesday means the House Ethics Committee’s ongoing investigation into child sex trafficking allegations against Gaetz has concluded and no report will be issued. Then he…
The footage is shocking. Southern California has been free of brown bears for more than a century, but a brown bear apparently used a door handle to enter a 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost. It then roams around the car, raking the leather seats with its powerful claws. Officials say it wasn’t a frightening beast, but rather a person wearing a bear costume and using kitchen tools to shred meat. And, according to the California Department of Insurance, the video was not a lucky catch, but a staged performance submitted as part of an insurance fraud scheme by four people. The California newspaper…

She told investigators that when she bent over, the suspect, now identified as Aaron Nevis, of Westminster, assaulted her. “The victim stated that when she…
