The owner of Bar Stella was arrested Tuesday morning outside the restaurant and accused of firing bullets into the walls and ceiling of the apartment above the business, authorities said.
Gareth Kantner was taken into custody around 12:25 a.m. on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, Los Angeles Police Department Officer David Cuellar told the Times.
Officers arrived at the 3900 block of Sunset Boulevard, where Kantner owns Bar Stella and other restaurants, and heard gunshots coming from an apartment above.
According to police, when they entered the home, they found numerous bullet holes in the walls and ceiling of the home.
No one was injured and there were no casualties, Cuellar said.
Kantner, owner of Bar Stella and the adjoining French bistro Café Stella, was arrested without incident.
A neighbor, who requested anonymity, told the Times that he awoke around midnight to the sound of three different gunshots.
A police helicopter flew over the neighborhood, and officers in riot gear descended on Sunset Boulevard, cutting off a section of the street by the Intelligencia coffee shop, which is also located below Kantner’s apartment. She said it was on lockdown.
It took several hours for the main street to quiet down. The woman said she went to Sunset Boulevard around 2 a.m. and saw about six police officers arresting Kantner.
