Barack Obama shares rare insights into his marriage to Michelle Obama.
The former US president says he has spent more time doing fun things with his wife after two consecutive terms at the White House that ended in 2017.
“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” the Democratic leader told Hamilton University president Stephen Tepper at an April 3 event, part of the school’s Sacerdote series.
The former president continued to talk about life at home with Michelle Obama, her children, Maria Obama, 26, and 23-year-old Sasha Obama, and when he couldn’t communicate as effectively as he wanted.
“First of all, I always lose arguments about my wife and daughter,” he said. “They laugh at me and ridiculously ridiculously at the dinner table.”

The former first lady shared some insights into the couple’s lives last month. She focused on her pet Peeve, which she has about her husband of 32 years and his time management.
“I got this husband. When it’s time to leave, it’s 3am, he’s up and going to the bathroom!” she told her brother Craig Robinson in the first episode of the “IMO” podcast, released on March 11th. “Hey, man, the departure at 3 o’clock means you did it all, “Do you know? Don’t start looking for your glasses, you know, you know, you know.”
Michelle Obama also shared a cheeky little story about her bedtime love.

“Bedtime is the best time,” the former first lady said on March 20th’s episode of Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast. “My husband will tease me about how early I can go to bed.”
She added, “He just doesn’t understand. The idea of getting into a good sheet, and that’s cool.”
When asked about the ideal bedtime, Michelle Obama said, “Every time after dinner.”
She also told Kelse, who was pregnant with her and her husband Jason Kelse’s fourth daughter at the time, that the former president once had the idea of giving birth to another baby.
“I said, ‘I think I was lucky with these two,'” Michelle Obama said. “Barak was like, ‘We should have a third’ and I was like, ‘man.’ ”
