Streetwear mogul, nightlife legend and cocktail whispers step into the bar. No, it’s not a joke setup. This is the opening of Barbenjamin, the latest velvet rope cocktail destination from hundreds of co-founder Benjamin., Benjamin Safahr, who has stopped charmingly and glamourfully on top of Benjamin Hollywood in Melrose.
Opening at 7174 Melrose Avenue, the steamy Art DeCon inspired bar is the effort of Shenassafer and partner Jared Meissler (you may know from Roger Room or Barbicz) and culinary consultant Kate Bar. The bar takes over a short-lived moon room. There used to be a bathtub gin in the space. Currently, the space is given the same bistro style interior as Benjamin downstairs. Think about it: a balcony bar with low wooden panel ceilings, mohair booths, custom carpets and a front row view of Hollywood Hills. Go under the sparkling red neon “bar” sign and climb into a moody cinematic cocktail lounge, older school elegance than influencer bait. Please be honest with both.
But the real scene here stewer? drink. Created by Jason Lee of N/Soto and Baroo’s cocktail dream team and Chad Austin of Bootlegger Tiki, this menu is packed with the creativity and bounding spirit of technicolor. I agree with Patricia Kelly Yeo of LA Food and Drink Editor. “To be honest, the only thing that’s worth keeping out of the way with Benjamin is drinks, so Benjamin makes sense as a sprinting extension of the concept liquor,” she adds.
Customers will be greeted with a complimentary bite of Bad Bunny (a clear carrot hazel nut aquabit milk punch) before diving into a Tommy Boy-like concoction. Tommy Boy-like formulation, a clear milk punch inspired by Tom Kaigai Soup, or an indigenous auxiliary that involves frozen strawberry daiquiri cube and pina colada trunks

There is a take that has been promoted to classics, with Meemo Manhattan and Benjamin’s already iconic dirty martinis, with the shame of olives, capers and zeros. You won’t miss any non-dlinkers either. The menu features zero-proof options like the detailed and delicious Taro Milk Punch (Hemp Spirit, Taro, Genmaicha). The small bites are in tune with the refined bar. There are only a few examples of bagel chip steak tartare, golden ocetra caviar with triple freed chips, and shrimp rolls topped with salmon lobe.
Barbenjamin is currently open Tuesday through Saturday and reservations are available via Resy. Come for a cocktail and stay for caviar.
