With heavy rains expected, authorities advise beach fans in Los Angeles County to stay away from the water on Thursday as the possibility of a spill, including dangerous wildfire debris, is increasing.
The LA County Public Health Department, ports and ports warned Wednesday that storm spills could transport bacteria, chemicals and dangerous debris from city streets and mountainous areas into the ocean.
Swimmers and surfers should avoid water contact at least 72 hours during rainfall, especially near storm drains, streams and rivers, officials said.
Beach visitors were encouraged to avoid wildfire debris, including twist metal, construction materials, and dark gray sediments that could hide sharp objects such as glass shards and claws.
Meanwhile, the high surf advisory will be effective from 9am on Thursday to 3pm on Friday, breaking waves of 5-8 feet and anticipating dangerous RIP currents along the LA County coast, predictors said.
