Beagle Rescue Saturday in Huntington Beach – NBC Los Angeles

We are looking for their eternal home this Saturday at our adoption event in Huntington Beach.

Established in 2017, Bean’s Beagles, an Orange County-based rescue, brings many beagles that have been in care for over the months or years.

“All dogs at our event this weekend need a home,” said Dolores Ellis, president of Bean’s Beagles. “The life in the kennels belonged to them, because that’s all we can offer at this point, but they need a home and human interaction.”

Among the Beagles available for adoption are the 4-year-old Beagle Bloodhound Mix, Mocha, a 2-year-old woman, and a 7-year-old Sole.

Meet Dwayne

After being rescued in San Diego, volunteer favorite Dwayne spent more than a year in care of Beans Beagles. The organization calls him a big lover who loves to go for walks.

Dwayne suffers from allergies, Ellis said, and she hopes he will find a home with an owner who can properly care for his needs.

Dwayne, who is about four years old, is a mix of Beagle Bloodhounds.

Meet Mocha

Mocha is the longest-term resident of a nonprofit organization. She is a sweet and energetic Tripod Beagle who loves to run around despite being tripped.

Her left leg in front was broken under her original ownership. After it was surgically repaired, she developed an infection and was taken to a shelter where her legs were amputated.

Meet the sole

The sole is the latest addition to the Beans Beagle. The nonprofit said he was a happy and sweet boy despite the neurological issues.

The sole is about 7 years old.

Meet Nacho

Rescue groups never turn down a furry friend who is not a beagle. A “beagle of the spirit” Chihuahuas named Nacho will also be taking part in the adoption event.

Nacho is a Chihuahua that is around 9-10 years old.

Bean’s Beagles will host an adoption event in Huntington Beach on the next two Saturdays.

This Saturday, July 12th, the group will be participating in Pet Supply on Brookhurst Street, Saturday, July 19th, from 10am to 2pm. The event will be held at Pet Products Plus on Edinger Avenue.

A complete list of shelter rescues currently being hired can be found on the Bean’s Beagles website.

“All the rescue we know is full and we stretch ourselves as much as we can whenever there is a dog in need,” Ellis said.

Agents usually rescue most dogs from shelter, abandon their owners, and call from community members.

In Orange County, 1,193 dogs were taken to shelters from January to March 2025. Among them, 176 dogs were transferred to other institutions, such as Beans Beagle.

Animal Rescue said it had found a home for four because adoption rates are so low this year, and Ellis said it was the result of the economic struggles his family is facing.

“It’s a national trend issue. Housing issues, income issues. They’re all tied to it, and dogs come next to many families and their priorities,” Ellis said.

Bean’s Beagles accepts donations of medical expenses, similar to gifts listed on the Amazon Wishlist. Please see the details here.
