The beloved Culver City ice cream man started this week as he always is, filling up with snacks along his colorful cart.
However, on Monday afternoon he made a desperate call to his wife to tell him, “I’m about to be detained.”
Ambrocio “Enrique” Lozano is the familiar face of Culver City as a neighbor’s ice cream man for over 20 years.
“It means a good guy just like selling ice cream,” said Federico Gagliardone, a resident of Culver City.
So the sight of his abandoned cart on Culver Boulevard on Monday afternoon stumped the neighbors.

His nie, Kimberly Noriega, told NBC4 to tell him that Enrique was about to call his wife, Anita Neri Rozano, about 12:30pm, to be taken by a masked man in an unmarked car.
“And he said, ‘Hey, I’m being taken away. I love you.’ And he gave information about where the cart was.
After 13 years of marriage, Anita says he is her whole world.
With the help of a lawyer, they learn that Enrique had been taken to a federal detention center in downtown.
“When I called, we called the facility to see where he was being detained. They don’t want to give us an answer. They don’t want to give us a badge number,” Noriega said.
A brief visit with him on Wednesday revealed conditions that Anita described as cold and dirty.
[RAW 1]“He was only there for two days and she says it looks like he’s there for three months,” Noriega said.
So far, the family has raised over $35,000 for the legal and living expenses of his wife, who is disabled and relies on Enrique as the sole earner.
“He’s working and no one cares. He’s just a paretro. He’s just selling his ice cream.
The family works with the Mexican consulate to assure him that he has an advocate and that if he is deported, he is sent to his native Mexico, not somewhere else.
Noriega said she was impressed by all the people reaching out and offered to write a letter to make him the best lawyer to help him stay in America on behalf of Enrique
