Another Palestinian-Columbia student protester was detained by federal immigration authorities in Vermont on Monday amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on Hamas sympathizers pose a potential threat to national security.
Mohsen Mahadawi, a Palestinian-born green card holder in Vermont, was taken into custody while attending an immigration interview at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service field office in Colchester, Vermont, according to a court that challenged the arrest.
The arrest has been accused of “immoral” and “illegal” by Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
The Trump administration is cracking down on widespread anti-Semitism on university campuses after years of pro-Hama and pro-Palestinian protests disrupt classes across the country.

A video posted on social media on Monday appeared to show Mahdawi being escorted from the building in handcuffs by law enforcement officials.
The Department of Homeland Security and ICE did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
According to court filings, Mahdawi co-founded the Palestinian Student Union in Colombia in the fall of the Hamastero attack on October 7th. He founded a group with Mahmoud Khalil, another pro-Palestinian activist who was detained by federal immigration officials under the Trump administration earlier this year.
The document states that Mahdawi is studying philosophy in Colombia and was expected to graduate from university in May. He also says that Mahadawi was the organizer of the protests in Colombia until he returned from leadership this March. The filing claims he is a “legal permanent resident” of the United States.

US District Judge William Sessions ruled on Monday that Madawi cannot be excluded from the United States or Vermont if further court reviews are pending.
Mahdawi’s arrest was immediately condemned by two Vermont US Senators, Bernie Sanders, Democrat Peter Welch, and only members of Democrat Congressman Becca Barint.

The three issued a joint statement Monday identifying Mahdawi as a resident of White River Junction, Vermont.
The statement said Mahdawi walked to the immigration office for “what was supposed to be the final step in the citizenship process,” and instead “was arrested and removed in handcuffs by an individual with face covering, armed individual.”

The statement allegedly said, “These individuals refused to provide information about where he was being taken or what would happen to him.”

“This is immoral, inhuman and illegal,” the three said. “Mahdawi, a legal resident of the United States, must be given due process under the law and be released from custody immediately.”
