Former President Joe Biden defended the use of autopens during a recent interview, shedding light on his administration’s rationale for the controversial use of technology.
An interview with The New York Times focused on using his autopen during the final pardon he made at the end of his administration.
In his final weeks of office, Biden has admitted generosity and has allowed more than 1,500 individuals. The White House then described it as the biggest day-long act by the US president.
Speaking with the Times on Thursday, Biden said he had “made all the decisions.”

“We’re talking [granting clemency to] A lot of people,” the Democrats said.
However, the Times reported that Biden “did not individually approve each name of the amnesty in the category that applies to many people.”
“In fact, after extensive discussion of various possible standards, [Biden] The Times report signed the criteria he wanted to use to determine which prisoners qualify for sentence reductions.
Instead of repeatedly asking the president to resign from the latest version of the official document, his staff used an autopen to place Biden’s signature on the final version.
Biden’s comments came when Republicans attacked him with his auto in a huge number of official documents.
In June, President Donald Trump directed the Justice Department’s memo to direct Attorney General Pam Bondy to investigate the use of the autopen and determine whether it was related to Biden’s reduced mental state.

Biden was ultimately just one hand signed pardon, which was his most controversial
“In recent months, it has become increasingly clear that former President Biden’s aides have abused the power of the president’s signature through the use of an autopen to hide Biden’s cognitive decline and assert Article 2 powers,” Trump wrote.
“This conspiracy is one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history. The American people were intentionally protected from discovering who used enforcement.
Also in June, Trump told reporters that he thought using an autopen was “inappropriate” despite past presidents using them.
“Usually, when they put documents in front of you, they’re important,” Trump said. “Even if you’re signing the ambassador, or I think it’s important, I think it’s inappropriate.”

“You have someone who has dedicated more than four years of life to being an ambassador. You really think that person deserves a real signature… not an autopen signature.”
