The New Orleans attacker, Shamsud Din Jabbar, acted alone, hours before plowing his pickup truck into a crowd of New Orleans celebrants at high speed. A “remote detonator” explosive device was planted. “The year of Bourbon Street,” President Biden said during a press conference Thursday.

“We have no information that anyone else was involved in the attacks,” Biden said at a news conference, referring to the administration’s 235 judicial confirmations. “They established that he was the same person who planted explosives in ice coolers at two locations near the French Quarter hours before the attacker drove into the crowd. He determined that he had a remote detonator in his car and detonated those two ice boxes. ”

Biden said federal law enforcement officials were investigating a potential link to the Las Vegas bombing, which is also being investigated as a terrorist attack, and urged them to “accelerate” efforts. Fourteen people were killed in a gunfight with police, including Jabbar.

“At this point, we’ve just been briefed,” Biden said. “So far, we have found no evidence of such a link. I have instructed them to continue their investigation.”

The FBI identified Jabbour as the driver who crashed a rental truck into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The agency told lawmakers Thursday it had no information about Mr. Jabbar before the attack. Jabbar also said he was “inspired” by ISIS, but investigators said they had found no evidence that he was directed by ISIS.

New Orleans hospitals treated a total of 37 victims injured in Wednesday’s attack. LCMC Health did not say how many of the injured have since been released from the hospital, nor did it disclose the condition of those still hospitalized.

Authorities are investigating potential military ties between Jabbar and the Las Vegas suspect, whom law enforcement identified to The Associated Press as Matthew Libersberger.

“As you know, there is an ongoing FBI investigation in Las Vegas as well. We are following up on all potential leads and have not ruled out anything,” Christopher Reia, deputy director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division, said Thursday. he told reporters. “However, at this time there is no definitive connection between the attack here in New Orleans and the attack in Las Vegas.”
