Beer, sausage, pretzel and polka won the Big Bear center stage in the 8th Mayfest Celebration.
Mayfest celebrates the arrival of spring with traditions similar to the better known Oktoberfest tradition.
Big Bear Lake is one of California’s premier locations celebrating the Oktoberfest, and has hosted major German holiday events for over 50 years.
Big Bear Lake’s Mayfest will be celebrated on Memorial Day weekend, May 25th, 2025.
Pronounced like “My Fest,” Mayfest can be thought of as Oktoberfest’s sister, organizers said.
“Maifest is expanding the back version of her older brother, OktoberFest, but the fun is just as big and exciting,” the organizers wrote. “She packs a big punch.”
Maifest featured German beer and food, a craft fair with a variety of vendors, contemporary hits performed in polka-style arrangements, and a hotly contested beer Steinholding competition with possible spots at the Line’s national conventions.
Traditional My Pole Dance and My Bowl Punch, and “Sparkling and Fruity Bavarian Cocktails” were also part of the offering.
Wanting to keep the spirit of the party alive, hundreds of visitors who were already at Big Bear on Memorial Day weekend visited the Big Bear Convention Centre to take part in the festival.

This year, visitors to the area booking accommodation on bigbear.com will be eligible for a free Maifest general admission ticket.
“At Big Bear, we’re going to kick off the summer with a slightly different kickoff, and we’ll do it with an Oktoberfest twist,” said Big Bear CEO Travis Scott.
Mayfest celebrations continue through Memorial Day weekend with special encores on the weekend from May 30th to June 1st.
