The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy shot a man Saturday night near a busy intersection and shopping area in West Hollywood, prompting a massive police response and street closure.
The man is in stable condition at 5:57pm after being shot dead in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near the intersection of Lovelair Avenue.
Deputy Veronica Phantom called the incident “a shooting involving an officer.” She said all officers were considered and there was no additional information available.
The Weho Times released a video of the man on a stretcher loaded into an ambulance. The man seemed to be on guard and shouting his head as he got caught in the car.
The area features West Hollywood Gateway Mall, which houses Target, Best Buy and other stores. A video shared with social media showed a helicopter hovering overhead and a yellow police tape blocking the intersection and section of the plaza on the first floor of the mall.
“Please avoid the La Brea Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd areas for active law enforcement investigations,” the Sheriff’s Department wrote on its previous Twitter, X. “Our representatives are in the area and multiple streets are closed. There is no current threat to the community.”
The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Bureau, at (323) 890-5500.
