Bigfoot has long been associated with Northern California, but is strongly associated with Washington state, and is reportedly found far away as New York and Georgia.
The famous videotapes are probably filming bigfoot, or costumed people, walking down a stream north of Eureka, California. There, there is a wealth of majestic redwood trees, the official tree of the state.
