Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday that he was nominated for former Ohio soccer coach Jim Tressel to serve as state lieutenant governor.
“Jim Tressel is Ohio Value,” DeWine said at a press conference that DeWine announced her nomination for Tressel in place of former Gunn John Husted, who was appointed to the US Senate last month.
“He’s hardworking and shares that vision (I have) for the future of Ohio. He has the ability to bring people together. He has the ability to lead. That day. You can enter and become governor and it will be seamless.”
Tressel, who DeWine called the “Born Leader,” was the head coach of the Ohio State football team from 2001 to 2010. The Buckeyes won the 2002 National Championships during Tressel’s tenure, along with six Big Ten Championships and a 9-1 record with rivals. Michigan.

Tressel, 72, retired as president of Youngstown State University a year and a half ago. He has been working since 2014. Since then he has been involved in the workforce and economic development activities.

Tressel’s nomination must be approved by the Ohio Senate and Ohio House, led by the Republican Supermajority.
