Boyle Heights-raised rapper will.i.am announced Monday that the Black Eyed Peas will return as a performer at this year’s East L.A. Classic at SoFi Stadium.
The 49-year-old star broke the news in a video message to students during morning assembly at Roosevelt High School. School officials confirmed that a performance by Boyle Heights Beat was planned.
“How many of you remember the East LA Classic when we were at the Coliseum? If you do, it must have been an epic event,” he said in a video shared with Boyle Heights Beat. spoke. “My heart was filled with joy…remembering my childhood and remembering my love for Boyle Heights.”

Will.i.am previously performed at the 2022 East LA Classic held at the LA Coliseum in South LA, along with Black Eyed Pea members APL.DE.AP, Garfield alum Taboo, and J.Ray. He has performed with Soul and others.
This year’s Roosevelt vs. Garfield game is scheduled for Oct. 25 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. This will be the 89th East LA Classic since its inception in 1925.
JV football will be on the field at 3:30 p.m., and girls flag football will be played starting at 6 p.m., prior to the varsity game kicking off at 7:30 p.m. The Black Eyed Peas are scheduled to perform during varsity halftime.
