San Diego County’s “Super Sanctuary” policy exists for now, following a failed vote from Republican County officials to scrap it.
“The Biden administration has forced San Diego County to the forefront of a ruthless border crisis, and now county Fringe Democrats are trying to do the same,” R-Calif Rep. Darrell Issa told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“The people in my district don’t want some of the policies that contradict our laws, block law enforcement and kill innocent Americans. I mark these words. Sanctuary policies will disappear.”
County’s policies further constrain the ability of San Diego officials in Border County to comply with federal law enforcement in regards to taking over illegal immigration, and opponents believe the policies will open the door to counties that protect people suspected of serious crimes.

“This is a very disappointing thing,” Republican manager Jim Desmond said in a statement. “This wasn’t about politics. It was about ensuring that criminals, rapists, child abusers, robbers and violent offenders were removed from our community. Instead, fear and misinformation won that day, putting law-abiding residents at greater risk.”
Desmond and superintendent Joel Anderson voted to remove the policy introduced by the board’s Democratic majority in December, but Democrat overseer Monica Montgomery Steppe argued that repealing it would play a role outside the scope of the county.
“Even the very language of Policy L-2 does not protect criminals, it’s about this county staying in its lanes, protecting our area and ensuring the federal government staying in its lanes,” Democratic overseer Montgomery Step said during a meeting with “no.” Her Democratic colleague, supervisor Terra Lawson Romer, withdrew.

This move occurs as changes in immigration and border policy have had a drastic impact. This is because immigration and customs enforcement agencies continued to raid the country, causing a sharp drop in border crossings.
Additionally, Tom Homan, Trump’s border border, was an opposition to the government’s voice with sanctuary city policies.
Jewish Family Services at San Diego’s Immigration Center closed the door last month after a massive fall in the number of migrants who arrived in the area.
“This failure also makes it more difficult and dangerous for federal immigration authorities to do their jobs. Rather than forcing federal agents to arrest us in our communities, our neighborhoods and our workplaces, it’s far safer and less invasive for ice to hold off criminals while the ice is still in prison.”

According to KPBS, there is currently one vacant seat remaining on the board held by Nora Vargas, which was opened by former chairman Nora Vargas.
