The newly released bodycam footage shows the tense moments of Gillian Schliner, 51, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Schliner, before being shot in Los Angeles by an officer searching for a hit-and-run suspect.
On April 8, the California Highway Patrol responded to a crash of three vehicles that escaped the highway on foot and escaped to the Eagle Rock area near 134 Freeway and Figuero A Street at 3:25pm.
The CHP called the Los Angeles Police Department for backup. While officers searched for the suspect in the backyard in the 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive, police said Schliner emerged from his gun-armed home.

The bodycam footage shows an officer standing behind a wooden fence surrounding Schliner’s backyard saying, “Madam, put your gun down! Drop your gun! It’s the police.
Repeated warnings from officers were reportedly ignored by Shriner. At that point, the officer said he believed Schliner was involved in Hit and Run.
Security footage from inside Shriner’s backyard shows a woman engulfing a 9mm handgun and opening a fire at a group of officers, police said.
The officer responded by firing at least eight shots and hitting Schliner twice on the shoulder before retreating to the house.
On the 911 call, Schliner believed that police were defending herself against the suspect they were searching for.
An hour after the shooting, Schliner and another woman, reportedly, her child’s babysitter, raised her hand and left the house. The woman was ordered to walk down the driveway and was told to lie on the street as police had taken them into custody.
Schliner was taken to hospital where he was treated for a life-threatening gunshot wound.

She was questioned and later booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer. The 9mm handgun used in the shooting was reportedly recovered from her home.
She was released from custody after posting bail and is due to return to court on April 30th.
The hit and run suspect, pursued by officers, was later found and taken into custody that day. The other two suspects involved in the crash remain overall.
“In the coming months, LAPD will continue to investigate and analyze this incident,” police said. “We will continue to come forward and interview new witnesses who may complete forensic tests. The board will evaluate the evidence to determine whether officers’ tactics, drawing and displaying weapons, and the use of lethal force in this case are in compliance with LAPD policy.”

Schliner is a bestselling author of two memoirs. In 2021, she starred in Starz Docuseries in “Staying Against a Serial Killer.” She also wrote little book profiling for 2023. Her husband, bassist Scott Schliner, has recorded 12 studio albums since joining Weezer in 2001.
