A video circulating on social media of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Deputy has many residents rattling before he repeatedly punches him in a physical struggle with a teenage boy.

The April 9 incident unfolded just after 4pm in the 10,100 block of third avenue, about a mile and a half at Hesperia Middle School in Hesperia.

In a news release, sheriff’s officials said the aides had been sent to the area to investigate reports of students who brought their guns to school. At that location, SBSD said the 14-year-old man had left when the aide asked to speak to a group of subjects who allegedly had firearms.

“When the lieutenant tried to detain him, he physically assaulted the lieutenant, which led to a brief struggle and use of force,” sheriff’s officials said.

In the footage of the incident posted on Instagram, the aide pulls the teenager towards him and quickly moves behind the boy and takes him to the ground. The adjutant appears to be trying to keep him still, placing his left hand on the boy’s face.

Southern California sheriff’s deputies were seen in this undated file photo.

The 14-year-old struggles as his lieutenant lands four violent punches on the boy’s head and one lands in his stomach.

As the aide lands, the teens can hear a cry while onlookers protest the assault.

The teen then rolls and cuffs onto his stomach.

The moment before the video ends, the unidentified deputy is seen picking up a green handled knife from the ground. It is unclear who the knife belongs to, and there is no mention of the weapon in the accounts of the case provided by the Sheriff’s Office or whether it was collected as evidence.

Authorities said the gun was not recovered during the investigation.

According to a report by the Victor Valley Newsgroup, the response to the assault has been mixed, with some on social media expressing that the teens have escalated the situation and others are disappointed by the strength of the power used by the boy.

The teen was detained, arrested, booked at a juvenile detention assessment centre and booked to resist officers, the release said.

KTLA reaches out to the person who filmed the video and waits for a response.
