The boy was charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing earlier this month during a downtown Los Angeles protest against President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
The stab wound occurred on February 7th at a Grand Park outside city hall after a group of students left school for the fourth day of the protest. The victim, described as a Hispanic man at the time, was left in danger and taken to a local hospital.
On Thursday, the LA District Attorney’s Office announced that the suspect with the stab wound has been charged with attempted murder.
“Violence has no place in our public spaces,” said Da Nathan Hochman, LA County. “We understand that people have the right to express their opinions, but this right must be exercised with respect for the safety and happiness of others. Our support is for the victims and their families as they navigate this difficult time and begin the recovery process.”

KTLA’s Rich Prickett estimated that hundreds were outside city hall around 1:30pm that day.
Footage shot by Sky5 showed the aftermath of at least one of the brutal bouts that broke out and the stab wounds that included a bloody victim.
“I came to protest, and there was a man who came out who wasn’t even part of the protest, and just shank the guy,” an eyewitness named Will told KTLA. “I got everything on the camera, I just walked, I put pressure on it, cut my shirt off and wrapped it around him to stop the bleeding.”
The DA’s office refused to file charges during his February 18 arrest in Juvenile Court on Feb. 18. The next hearing is scheduled for March 7th.
