The adoptive parents of a 10-year-old boy have been charged with murder, torture and child abuse after he died in hospital from “medical distress,” authorities said.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to the 13000 block of Malibu Court in Moreno Valley for a report of a juvenile in need of medical assistance.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 10-year-old boy “in medical distress” who was taken to hospital by paramedics.
“The deputy’s initial investigation revealed signs of possible neglect and abuse,” RSO said.
Hours after being taken to the hospital, the boy’s health deteriorated and he eventually died, deputies said. His exact cause of death has not been stated and his identity will not be revealed.

A joint investigation by the RSO’s Central Homicide Unit and Special Victims Unit resulted in the arrest of the boy’s adoptive parents, 59-year-old Juan Sánchez Moreno and 51-year-old Alejandra Marin.
Moreno and Marin, both Moreno Valley residents, were charged with murder, torture and child abuse.
Marin was being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center, according to his inmate search records. Her first court date is set for Tuesday morning.
Inmate search records for Moreno were not immediately available.
