LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mikey Madison won the best actress Oscar on Sunday with “Anora,” which drove her 25-year-old into a film career after achieving her first success on television.
Her victory was part of a big night for the Brooklyn set comedy drama, which won five Oscars, including Sean Baker’s finest photography and directorial honors.
“Wow, this is very surreal,” Madison said. He hugged Baker and others before he took the stage.
“Forgive me, I’m nervous,” she said before reading the list of names from the paper.
Madison was best known for playing a gross teenager in the 2022 FX comedy series “Better Things.” She also appeared in the fifth article in “Once Upon a Time…Hollywood” and the horror franchise “Scream.”
These jobs attracted the attention of director writer Baker, who wrote the title role of Madison’s “Anola.” She learned Russian and did her own stunts in films. In addition to that, he learns pole dancing to play an exotic dancer who marries the son of a Russian oligarch.
“I want to recognise the sex worker community. I will continue to support them and become an ally,” Madison said on stage.
The film debuted in a critical acclaim at Cannes last year, winning Parmedollar. It has gained momentum ever since, and its box office success easily won a $6 million budget.
Demi Moore, a Hollywood veteran of “Materials,” was the Oscars’ top runner who won Madison at the Golden Globe and SAG Awards. However, Madison defeated Moore at BAFTA two days before the Oscar polls ended, winning the Independent Spirit Award last weekend.
“It’s a great honor and I think I’ll run later,” Madison said behind the scenes. “I really didn’t expect that at all.”
She was born in Los Angeles to Michaela Madison Rosberg, one of five children by psychologist parents. Her mother signed up for acting classes in her mid-teens after Madison was trained in competitive riding.
“I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt like it was far from me,” Madison said.
Madison hugged Oscar behind the scenes.
“My heart is everywhere and my heart is about to explode right now,” she said with a smile.
She has praised nine films since her debut in 2017 with “Liza, Liza and Skies Are Grey.”
“I really don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I really want to keep making movies,” Madison said. “Making this film gave me confidence as an actor and as a creative one. It really inspired me, revitalised my love for film and reminded me of the kind of work I want to do.”
But first, she has a furry friend waiting for her.
“I’m going to go home with my new puppy and probably clean up their mess.
In addition to Moore, other candidates were Cynthia Erivo from “Wicked,” Cara Sofia Gascon from “Emilia Perez,” and Fernanda Torres from “I’m Still Here.”
