Based on public comments from the victim’s family and confirmation from lawyers, prosecutor and accused murderer Brian Coberger appears to have reached a plea deal that will take the death penalty from the University of Idaho student murder table.
Kohberger, 30, is accused of shocking the country with stab wounds from Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves at a rental home near Moscow, Idaho in November 2022.
Autopsy showed that all four were likely asleep when attacked, but some suffered defensive wounds, each of which was stabbed multiple times.
Kohberger was charged with four counts of murder in the death of a student. All four were killed in the early hours of November 13th, 2022.
Based on public comments from the Goncalves family, public comments on a verified Facebook page and confirmations from lawyer Shanon Gray, it appears that prosecutors and Kohberger have reached a plea deal that will take the death penalty from the University of Idaho student murder table.
“That’s true! We’re furious in Idaho. They’ve failed us. Give us time. This was very unexpected. We appreciate all your love and support.”
NBC News spoke with representatives from the Rata County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday.
Kohberger’s trial was scheduled to begin on August 11th in Boise.
