A few days without clean water, thousands of Granada Hills and Porter Ranch residents are one step closer to recovered services as Los Angeles’ Water and Power Department crews are fully repairing damaged groundwater pipes.
The issue began on August 5th when the valve at the pump station, which controls the flow of water to the 10 million gallon aquarium, broke during repairs.
Officials, set up in 1967, said the valve was trapped in a closed position, significantly slowing the flow of water to around 9,200 residents of the community.
It was a dangerous task to reach a 20-foot-based damage valve, according to the Los Angeles Times, as crews encountered fiber optic cables, high-pressure gas and oil lines.
The Granda Hills home was flooded after a temporary pipe burst during the repairs on August 10, 2025 (Baltan Nazarian). A broken water valve has left about 9,200 Granada Hills and Porter Ranch residents without water since August 5, 2025. Residents of the area have been under a “boiling water notification” since the incident that could remain there until Monday or Tuesday. Currently, we need to test the water flowing through the repaired valve. This can take up to 18 hours and the process must be repeated before the water is considered safe to drink, cook and clean.

The injury is humiliated, and on Saturday, the company uses a temporary pipe to transport water from the Metropolitan Water District to the Granada Hill urban pipes, draining water into the backyard of the Nazarian family, pushing the remains inside and around the house before the water line closes.
As of Sunday, the family told KTLA’s Rachel Menithov that they were still waiting to get an estimate of how much they repair their home.
While residents enter the sixth day if they do not boil the water, LADWP has set up five locations where bottled water can be picked up and used, such as drinking, cooking, washing, and showering.
