Two brothers were arrested and charged with murder in fatal shooting during an attempted carjacking in Cerritos.
The suspects were both identified as 54-year-old John Chun Moon and 58-year-old Cindy Kim of Lapalma, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
On February 25th, 66-year-old victim Cuauhtemoc Garcia left the car and took an afternoon walk along the Coyote Creek Bike Pass near Donnabe Park in Cerritos at about 12:30pm
Authorities said when the suspect approached Garcia and allegedly tried to steal his car.
It is said that when Garcia refuses to hand over the keys to his car, Moon and Kim shot him and killed him. They fled the scene before authorities arrived.
The LA County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify the suspect through a video posted to Tiktok, which showed the brothers.

On March 10, the brothers were assigned by Fullerton and officers from the Anaheim Police Department. At the time, they refused to surrender and led police in pursuit before they were eventually stopped and taken into custody.
“It was a pointless and brutal act of violence that took the lives of my husband, father and businessmen who wanted to enjoy a peaceful walk,” said LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. “My sympathy goes out to his family, grieving this unimaginable loss.”
On March 12, DA’s office announced that Moon and Kim were charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted second-degree robbery.
If convicted on all charges, both could face life in prison. An arrest hearing took place at Bellflower Court on Wednesday.
“We pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law to hold us responsible liability,” Hochman said.
