The Eaton Fire, which broke out near Pasadena and Altadena, claimed five lives and destroyed about 1,000 structures, including a popular museum that holds a Guinness World Record.
The Bunny Museum in Altadena has been “burnt down,” its operators announced on Facebook Wednesday.
Museum co-owner Steve Lubansky “bravely hosed down the building all night, but when the building next door collapsed, it spread to the museum,” the post explained.
The museum was recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1999, when it was recorded as having the largest collection of rabbit paraphernalia in the world, with over 8,400 items in the museum.

Although its collection has since grown to more than 45,000 items, the museum’s operators “saved only a few rabbit items” when fleeing the fire.
However, the history of the museum does not end there.
“The Bunny Museum will be rebuilt and it will be our third location,” the museum’s owners wrote. “I don’t know what city I’m in right now… Any suggestions? Does anyone want to donate a building to a 501c3 non-profit museum? Does anyone have a clue about where to live temporarily? With Steve [wife and museum co-owner] candace [Frazee]There are currently 2 rabbits and 3 cats in the motel. Today is not a very pleasant day, but tomorrow will be even more pleasant with lots of good wishes flying around. ”
