California State University Channel Islands are seeking the immediate release of one of the professors who was detained during the protests Thursday.
The demonstrations were born while federal officials were raiding at the Glasshouse Farm Marijuana Growing Facility in Camarillo, not far from the CSUCI campus.
At one point during the protest, tear gas was unfolded and dozens of people were handcuffed – Professor Jonathan Anthony Caravero was taken into custody and taken from the scene.
According to a social media post published Friday by the California Faculty Association, Professor Caravelo was “took” by federal agents who did not provide information to demonstrators.
Professor Jonathan Caravelo of California State University Channel Islands can be seen in photos on the CSUCI faculty directory page.
“The four masked agents dragged Jonathan to an unmarked location without giving reasons for arrest, without revealing where they were taking him, without identifying themselves,” the post reads.

In a statement, CSUCI confirmed that school officials are aware of reports that Professor Caravello, a lecturer in mathematics and philosophy who is a US citizen, has been taken to federal detention.
“At this point, we understand that Professor Caravero was peacefully involved in the protest, which protects the rights that are protected under the First Amendment and guaranteed to all Americans,” the statement said. “If confirmed, we are standing there saying that elected officials and community leaders are seeking his immediate release.”
CSUCI officials detailed that they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
A social media post published late Saturday night by the California Faculty Association showed Professor Caravelo had contact with his family. There was no word on where he was found.
