Incumbent Congressman Mark Takano won re-election in California’s 39th Congressional District over Republican challenger David Serpa, NBC News reported on Monday.
More than 182,000 votes were counted, with 56.4% supporting Democratic Party of Japan Takano, compared to Serpa’s 43.6% as of Monday.
The district includes Riverside, Moreno Valley, Jurupa Valley, and Perris.
Prior to his role in politics, Mr. Takano served as a teacher and community college director. Mr. Serpa is a United States Marine Corps veteran and business owner.
On Monday night, Serpa acknowledged the expected loss in a social media post.
His post reads, “Some battles are worth fighting, even when you know you might lose.” “In fact, sometimes it’s more important to fight when you know you’re going to lose.”
