SAN FRANCISCO (Kron) – California Sen. Scott Wiener has submitted documents indicating he intends to run for representatives of California’s 11th Congressional District, the seat currently being held by Nancy Pelosi.
Filed on June 27, 2025 and in the documents seen below, Wiener has signed the declaration of intent.
In an interview with KTLA, Wiener was asked about his political future.
“We’ve had a talk about your future. A potential successor to Nancy Pelosi’s successor in the house,” asked KTLA. “I know Pelosi submitted the paperwork in 2026. Are you thinking about running?”
“I love what I do with the state senator and I have an amazing member of Congress, Nancy Pelosi,” Wiener said.

Wiener’s documents show that he intends to run in 2028. However, in order for Pelosi to not seek another term next year, San Francisco Democrats were able to transfer his campaign funds in 2026.
Kron4 reached out to Senator Wiener officials for comment and received the following response:
“It was clear that I was going to run towards this seat every time a race was open, whether in 2026 or 2028. This filing is an important step in preparing one of the American political icons for a serious job.
“A potential race with very wealthy candidates who can raise money on their own, you have to work very hard to prepare yourself to go toe. I will devote my life to San Francisco people and people of our core values and will make our lives a profound honor when we fight for our democracy, healthcare, housing and basic civil rights.”
