California dems target GOP is called soft ads for child sex trafficking

A series of Facebook ads funded by California Democrats argue Republicans are opposed to strong laws to protect victims of sex trafficking, ages 16 and 17.

Ads began appearing on social media last week after the votes took place in the California Legislature. This has refused to allow Democratic leaders to move forward on AB 379.

Each ad features the names and images of state Republican lawmakers who accused “older teens” of protecting “political parties” rather than children of “protecting older teens.”

Democrat California State Sen. Maggie Krell said Monday that she agreed to remove provisions in the Child Sex Trafficking Bill, which ensures that the offences of sexually purchasing minors apply when they are under the age of 18.

Written by Democrat Congressman Maggie Krell, AB 379 attempted to crack down on buyers of child sex trafficking trade and match punishment with traffickers. The ad campaign comes after the Democratic-controlled Congressional Public Safety Commission decided to move the bill forward unless it owes a felony provision for people soliciting older teens for sex.

At the time, Krell told Fox News Digital that he was forced to exclude felony provisions in order to advance the law.

“I’m totally against that fix,” she said. “This is my life’s job and I will partner with sex trafficking survivors and law enforcement agencies to ensure that all minors are protected from the fear of sex trafficking.”

On Thursday, Democrats voted to completely strip the bill from Krell, a former prosecutor who investigated human trafficking, while excluding the automatic felony clause. They also read, “It is Congress’ intention and it is Congress’ intention to protect victims aged 16 and 17 and to enhance protections that support human trafficking survivors.”

“When @CA_DEM thought down, not even pathetic and hopeless, they’re mistakenly trying to turn themselves here as if they were (poor) politics (poor) people than their kids. I was excited for 2026.

Several Republican lawmakers opposed accusations that their party did not protect children.

“I see Democrats friends lying… After calling @asmdems to the floor last week to remove protections for victims 16 and 17, they run ads that are denounced us.

Congressman Josh Hoover, one of the Republicans who targeted the advertising campaign, said Democrats were trying to gaslight Californians.

“Undoubtedly, these ads are nothing more than a distraction from their own failed records of public safety,” he wrote on social media. “I have restored the protections they have removed, held accountable to the perpetrators, ensuring that all minors are treated equally under the law.”

The advertising campaign was reportedly driven by the campaign of assembly speaker Robert Rivas. Fox News Digital has contacted the California Democrats and Rivas campaign.

AB 379 came together after teenagers were excluded from state laws that came into effect this year, making it a felony to buy children under the age of 15 for sex. Last year, California Sen. Shannon Groven wrote a bill that made buying minors illegal for sex, but excluded the 16- and 17-year-olds.

Currently, traffickers, not buyers, face the toughest consequences when convicted of human trafficking under the age of 18.

Last week, Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he supported the harsh outcomes for those recruiting minors for sex.

Rep. Joe Patterson said Newsom has lost control of his own party and that state Democrats are treating him “like a lame duck.” Rep. Kate Sanchez said Democrats across the state have failed Californians on a variety of issues, including public safety, affordability and homelessness.

“All they left behind is dirty lies that are easily countered by journalists,” she wrote.

The National Republican Congressional Committee also placed great emphasis on this issue.

“California Democrats chose predators over children, and Derek Tran and Dave Min said nothing,” NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez told Fox News Digital, calling for Democrats. “What’s worse, they’re whitewashing out our fellow Democrats with a disgusting record of protecting the absolute worst between us.”

Last week, Krell said he doesn’t care if the bill has his name or not, but supports proposals that include protections for 16 and 17 years olds.
