Authorities say a social media influencer who lived in California died last week near a hiking trail in Arizona.
According to a news release from the Scottsdale Police Department, the body of 31-year-old Hannah Moody was found near the McDowell Sonorlamp Reserve on May 22 at about 12:05pm. Moody was reported to have missed the night around 7:50pm after her friend said she hadn’t heard from her, causing extensive searches.
Scottsdale police officers went to the trailhead where she was last seen and found her car in the parking lot, according to her release. Calls and pings to her phone were not successful in tracking her down.
Officers then searched her on foot with the help of a helicopter and drone from the Phoenix Police Station. Search was cancelled at night around 11:30pm
According to the release, officers resumed their search the following morning with the help of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s search and rescue team and air unit. The air unit found the body about 600 yards from the trail. Authorities said there were no obvious signs of foul play or trauma.
“Scottsdale detectives and crime scene personnel will conduct a thorough investigation to summarise what happened to Hannah and how she died,” according to the release. “Our investigation will work with the Maricopa County Medical Examination Office, which will ultimately determine the cause of death.”
According to public records, Moody lives in Los Angeles, Alameda, Orange County and South Carolina.
Her family told the news outlet that she moved from Charleston, South Carolina to Scottsdale after missing a hike in Arizona.
Moody frequently posted about her love for hiking on her Instagram and Tiktok accounts. Her Instagram account has around 45,000 followers. She posted a video on Instagram on May 18th, hiking along the trails and discussing the love of the sunset.
Temperatures in Scottsdale had exceeded 100 degrees by Thursday afternoon.
