Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park is under investigation by the state after a ride malfunctioned this week, leaving riders stuck in the air for more than two hours, authorities confirmed Thursday.
NBCLA has asked the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) what happened at Sol Spin after the Sol Spin ride suddenly stopped working at the six-story level on Monday. He confirmed that he is trying to find out.
Video from the scene on Monday showed 22 people in the vehicle with their legs dangling in the air and nearly stuck on their side.
According to the amusement park, the machine stopped mid-rotation due to a technical problem.
The Sol Spin riders were then safely evacuated, but the two women were hospitalized out of an abundance of caution.
Knott’s Berry Farm confirmed that maintenance staff are working to determine the cause of the failure and that the theme park will carry out inspections of the screaming machines before reopening.
Sol Spin is described as “for the brave” as each arm of the ride rotates 360 degrees and reaches the height of a six-story building.
