Authorities are investigating an invasion at the historic Nike missile site in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, outside San Francisco.
The National Park Service said it destroyed the SF-88 Nike Missile Site Magazine in Marine Headlands from the evening of March 15th to the evening of March 19th to the morning of March 19th.
The vandalism or vandalism sprayed all over the building with painted hate speech and spilled gallons of dangerous chemicals, Park Services said in a news release. It is unclear how many people are involved, but authorities said anyone who participated could have suffered chemical burns.
According to Park Services, the SF-88 site is one of almost 300 Nike missile sites built by US forces during the Cold War, and is the most fully restored site in the country.
“These sites are designed to be the final line of defense against the H-bomb carrying Soviet bombs that escaped the Air Force’s interceptor jet,” Park Service said.
According to Park Services, Golden Gate National Recreation Area is working with volunteers to preserve the site.
