A new program to help fund energy-efficient home renovations was announced Thursday by Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Energy Commission (CEC).
Interested parties can submit an application for Phase 1 of the Home Appliances and Appliances Rebate (HEAR or HEEHRA in California).
Funded by the Inflation Control Act (IRA), this program provides $80 million to low- to moderate-income homeowners to retrofit their homes with efficient electrification systems.
In California, homeowners whose household income is between 80% and 150% of Area Median Income (AMI) can receive up to $4,000, and those below 80% of AMI can receive up to $8,000. I can do that.
In Los Angeles County, the median income for a family of four must be $208.050 or less. See regional median income breakdowns for other counties here.
According to a CEC release, HEERA rebates “can be claimed for the purchase of new heat pumps for heating and cooling purposes.”
Applications for this program are being accepted starting November 12, 2024. CEC is distributing funding through Tech Clean California, a statewide initiative to promote efficient energy adoption.
