Former California Republican Rep. Michelle Steele is not seeking another term in Congress.

The Republican, who lost just over 600 votes to Rep. Derek Tran after serving two terms in the House in November, said he is pursuing other political goals.

“I have other goals, what do you know, I’m so much fun, and I’m currently working on President Trump’s agenda. And I’ve been appointed by Chairman Mike Johnson to that Asian American coalition, so I want to help Asian Americans in this country.

“No one is excited about the potential governor’s run of Kamala Harris, says the California donor.

Her decision not to run could open the door to a competitive Republican primary and multi-million-dollar general election race in 2026.

“I can serve better [with] What I’m doing now,” she said.

Steel, along with Young Kim and Marilyn Strickland officials, was the first Korean-American woman in Congress, while Steel is the first generation of Americans. Steel said funding and connections with the district’s various ethnic communities are key to Republicans trying to win seats, and mostly “first generation” like her.

“I have a complete understanding of what they have to go through as a first generation, so that’s really important. You have to ask exactly what you’re looking for to go through the community and settle in America, and this is a great country.

Steel has also called for anti-ice sentiment by Democrats across the country, as they misunderstand the underlying issues associated with illegal immigration by Democrats across the country.

“People were blaming me, ‘You’re a first generation immigrant, and then you’re actually trying to abuse and arrest the first generation,” I said, ‘No, this is the illegal criminal we’re talking about.’ And you think they are actually committing very dangerous people if they are arrested and they are not deported.

“And I know that President Trump is doing a great job deporting these criminals, and that’s what we have to do to ensure America’s security.

“We really have to give a better message, especially since we’re the first generation and you know that I’ve mostly heard calls from outside of this country. I said, ‘It’s really not true. That’s why we’re doing it.”

Her decision is due to the possibility that California Gov. Gavin Newsom will rezone in Golden State to block potential Texas Republican interests.

“The two can play this game,” he posted on X July 15th.

“I read this morning that all Democrats are in California and all Republicans are leaving. They have to look at this deal exactly what is useful to Californians. California is a very beautiful state. And I live in California.

“She doesn’t understand. He doesn’t know exactly what they have to do to make California better,” she said of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Newsom.

“So I really want to stop them being hurt. I hope that not just California, but the people in California are very opposed to these politicians. I hope that Republicans will win next year’s election because they’ve already hit the bottom.”
