The camera, which likely showed an altercation between an inmate and an agent at the Los Angeles Men’s Central Prison over the weekend, was unavailable due to maintenance issues, officials announced Tuesday.
The incident, which authorities said, began as a prisoner’s attack on the aides, took place on Sunday, where the aides support the inmates moving from the location of the residence.
“Three more deputies responded to the assistance and were assaulted,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
All four deputies were taken to a local hospital, including someone who was allegedly suffering puncture injuries for treatment, and were subsequently released.
Inmates are also medically evaluated and are being held in prison.
However, surveillance video of the incident is not available. “The cameras were temporarily unavailable due to maintenance issues, but these issues have been resolved and the cameras are now fully operational,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
The department’s homicide investigator is planning an investigation and will present it to the LA District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
“Attacks on our custodian deputies are absolutely unacceptable. We will act promptly to ensure that the person in charge is fully accountable,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Our employees work hard under difficult conditions to maintain a safe environment for all of us caring and custody.”
