Let’s blunt: Movie joints need to find new ways to pipe their patrons.
A recent article from Variety’s William Earl has pondered questions about the minds of all film executives. How do theaters invite movie fans? One suggestion: Make it marijuana-friendly.
Taking some puffs and consuming gummies before stepping into the theatre is undoubtedly a tradition for many. But what if you could attend the theatre? It could come sooner than you think.
Earl spoke with Taylor Randy Lee, a spokesman for the New York State Cannabis Management Office. He said the state could allow cinemas to apply for either event permits or consumption lounge licenses.
Just as in-cinema bars and alcohol sales became commonplace a few years ago, perhaps even small grass is possible as well.
Of course, just allowing customers to light up at any theater will make it worse for those who don’t want their contacts high – but a special “420 Friendly” show can spark interest for many.
What do you think? Are you interested in this new idea of bringing people to the movies, or puff, puff, do you pass it on?
