Crews announced Sunday evening that the Canyon Crest Fire was completely contained at 254 acres.
The fire burned through parts of San Bernardino County and neighboring Riverside County, prompting evacuation orders when it broke out around 5:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
The fire was controlled by the San Bernardino Fire Department near Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane in the Fontana area, according to CAL FIRE.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department initially reported that crews were on scene of a 100-by-100-foot ignition on an uphill slope.
The department quickly upgraded the fire from a second alert to a third alert as the fire grew at a moderate rate to about 10 acres. Within the next three hours, the fire grew to approximately 85 acres and was 0% contained.
An evacuation order was issued for an area of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway east of Country Village Road, south of the county line and west of Sierra Avenue, officials said.

“The evacuation alert was lifted shortly after noon Friday and the shelter in place at Jurupa Valley High School was closed,” a press release from the Riverside County Fire Department said.
No structural damage was reported from the fire, but flames burned near several homes Thursday evening.
“Our crews made steady progress over the weekend,” the Riverside County Fire Department said in a statement. “At 8 a.m. Saturday, the fire was listed on the map as 284 acres and 50% contained, but by Sunday this was revised to 254 acres.”
By 7 p.m. Sunday, fire officials confirmed the Canyon Crest Fire was 100% contained.
No injuries were reported and CAL FIRE says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
