Captain Cal Fire, who helped her fight Eton Fire last month, was killed, and investigators say it’s likely she knows the murderer.
According to a news release from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Rebecca Malodi was found Monday at a residence on Rancho Villa Road, Ramona. At about 8:58pm, lawmakers responded to reports of a deadly weapon attack and found Malodi with multiple stab wounds.
Malody was declared dead at the scene, officials said. The murder detective is investigating the murder as a potential domestic violence case and believes that Malody knew her murderer. Malody started as a volunteer firefighter in Moreno Valley in 1993 and worked as a seasonal firefighter in Riverside and San Bernardino counties from 1994 to 2000. Malody was a fire equipment engineer in 2007 and was promoted to captain in 2022.
According to an Instagram post, Malody was one of many firefighters who helped fight the deadly Eaton fire last month.
