The gun-holding man was shot late Saturday night by Los Angeles police, and the car later crashed into a command post set up for investigation.
Authorities say the Newton Division gang unit at the Los Angeles Police Department was ranked 42nd in the historic South Central District at around 10:50pm and 10:50pm.
“Before the officers arrived, the suspect had faced an individual in an alley adjacent to the area and fired at least one round into the air,” LAPD Det. Aguilar told KTLA.

A shooting occurred involving an officer who saw the armed man. Aguilar has been added. The man was shot and taken to a local hospital where he was expected to survive.
The individuals faced in the alley are not shot and are said to be working with the police.
The South Carolina man has not been seen since he traveled to LAX more than three weeks ago
For each LAPD, handguns were recovered at the scene and taken as evidence.
Authorities had set up a command post for an investigation into the shooting and were investigating it when the car crashed into Det, the mobile unit of the command post. Aguilar said.
The situation of the collision, including exactly what time it occurred, was not immediately known, but the vehicle’s driver was seen undergoing a drinking test.
There were no immediate reports of injuries to officers or members of the public.
No further information about shooting or crashes was available immediately.
