A high-speed police chase led to a violent crash when a car with four people crashed into the side of a Culver City home Saturday night, authorities said.
Video from the crash scene shows a red SUV crashing through a guardrail on Sawtelle Boulevard and into the side of a home. The rear wheels remained on the outside.
California Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Larsen said none of the passengers, two men and two women, were seriously injured and no one was inside the home.
One person was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered on the ground nearby, Larsen said.
Around 9:40 p.m., a red Dodge Durango was spotted by police after the driver failed to yield. The police chase soon continued on the northbound 405 Freeway near the Sepulveda Boulevard exit.
According to the CHP, the SUV was traveling on the shoulder of the highway.
The driver exited the highway and headed south again, eventually exiting at Culver Boulevard in Culver City, where he crashed into the side of a platform.
Larsen said the SUV took away “approximately 300 feet of guardrail.”
The off-ramp was then closed throughout Sunday morning while the California Department of Transportation repaired the rails, he said.
“I thought I was going to die,” one person who was a passenger in the car told OnSceneTV.
He told news outlets that his friend was driving and saw the “red and blue lights” of a CHP patrol car and the driver “decided to just keep going.”
Larsen said the crash caused extensive damage to the home.
