The 78-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon after being carjacked in a car wash at a no-co gas station.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle theft call just before 12:30pm in the 600 block of Hidden Valley Parkway. Witnesses reported seeing the man enter the driver’s seat of Lott’s vehicle.
As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement learned that the victim was vacuuming a Chevrolet Rail Blazer in the back door behind the passenger seat as the man approached the vehicle and entered the driver’s seat. For some reason, the victim was stuck in the SUV when the burglars stolen away.
About a mile away, the victim fell from the car and was dragged onto the road, causing serious injuries in the process. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and he died of injuries, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials were able to find the stolen vehicle on Riverside. Several people have since been detained for interrogation.
Authorities did not share the victim’s identity, but he said he was originally from the Covid.
The investigation is underway.
